Today's important thing is...

Today, I learned that responses are very important to show our interest to other person.
In English, the intonation is so important. The meaning of the word depends on the intonation.
Of course, it is important how we send messages, but how they receive messages is more important.
We have to tell correctly, so we try to avoid misunderstanding. In order to identify each other, we need to use the response.

I learned many new vocabulary. "Would you take a hand with..." and "keen on" is very useful.
When I wanted to say I would like to help with the cooking, I said "Is there anything I can do?" However, too polite is not good. So, the nuance is very very significant.
When I wanted to say I could not eat coconut, I said "I don't like it." I do not know it is a direct way. I try to use "keen on" from now on.
It is hard to communicate the minute nuances of usage.

I learn many phrases, then I want to talk with my host family. I want to communicate well.

  1. Hello!
    This is Mau:)
    Yeah, I think so too.
    Intonation is very important.
My host family sometimes can't understand what I'm saying.
I have to make my intonation better.

  2. Hi Yuka - an interesting first post! Good to see that you're learning things about the language - and yes - intonation is really important! It's great to see you're practising new language!
I'm looking forward to reading more about what you've been doing and your comparisons with life in the UK and Japan!
